Melon

Melon is a very tasty, satiating, thirst quenching fruit, thanks to the high content of water. For this reason, it helps preventing the dehydration. On the table we can serve it also as a starter.

A cup of yoghurt together with some cubes of melon is an excellent snack for those who observe a diet; slightly laxative, refreshing and suitable for those who suffer anaemia, as it is rich in iron. It is also rich in vitamins A and C and it is an excellent tonic.
Vitamin A, in the form of beta-carotene, prevents the formation of free radicals, responsible for cells aging and stretch marks. Vitamin B also is present in this fruit and besides toning, it recharges our mood. This vitamin is also excellent in opposing nervous hunger.

Moreover, this vitamin improves vision and strengthen bones and teeth.
Melon also has refreshing, diuretic and laxative properties and it is recommended in case of constipation, haemorrhoids and rheumatic pains. The presence of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium makes melon an excellent natural supplement against hot weather: just one slice is enough to improve and reactivate a lazy and swollen intestine.

Its anti-inflammatory, diuretic and thinner for blood are very efficient for regenerating the cells.
Its balanced content in water and fibre is refreshing for the digestive system and improves the circulation, eliminating cholesterol and exceeding triglycerides.

Finally, its pulp is used also as a beauty means. In cosmesis it is used in form of mask that tonifies the skin and makes it soft and silky.
This is how to prepare an excellent cream for dry skins: mix 1 dl of melon juice, 1 dl of natural water and 1 dl of full-cream milk. Store all in the fridge (maximum for one week) and shake before using it.

The self-made lotion with melon and clay is very much used as well:
Peel a ripe melon, whisk the pulp and filter it through a colander.
Collect the juice inside a bowl, add a tablespoon of green clay and mix for one minute.

et it rest for 5 minutes. After an excessive sun exposure, if the skin burns, dip a cotton disc in the clay mix and dab it delicately on the reddened areas, and repeat this until you will get the desired relief.
Let it rest for some minute and then wash it away with warm water.

The melon juice has a refreshing and astringent effect and helps reducing the negative effects of sun exposure. The clay in fact has an anti-inflammatory, soothing and healing effect
